Domain names

John Parnell Pierce / March 20, 2014

I’ve received an email about a CN (Chinese) domain name and trademark conflicts.

It is probably a scam. They are trying to sell you a domain name that you don’t need. Unless you specifically need a CN name for your business you can just ignore it or flag it as spam.

Here is an example of this sort of email:

We are a Network Service Company which is the domain name registration center in Shanghai, China. On *****, we received a formal application. One company named ***** Ltd wanted to register “<Your domain name>” as their China (CN) domain names and internet keyword. After our initial investigation, we found that this name conflict with your company name or trademark. In order to deal with this issue better, it’s necessary to send email to you and confirm whether or not your company have affiliation with this company?

Here’s another one:

Dear Brand Holder,

Sorry to bother you inexplicably. We are a registration agency of Asian Domain Registration Organization in China. I have something to confirm with you. We formally received an application on March 24, 2014 that a company which self-styled “***** Co.,Ltd” were applying to register “<Your domain name>” as their brand name and some domain names through our firm.

Now we are handling this registration, and after our initial checking, we found the name were similar to your company’s, so we need to check with you whether your company has authorized that company to register these names. If you authorized this, we will finish the registration at once. If you did not authorize, please let us know within 7 workdays, so that we will handle this issue better. Out of the time limit we will unconditionally finish the registration for “****** Co.,Ltd”. Looking forward to your prompt reply.

We see a lot of these sorts of emails. These ones are scams.
